Since LGPE is shit and Gen 8 will be too what should I move on to instead? Don't say TemTem it looks ugly af and Yokai Watch was pretty bad too.

If devs were smart enough to realise that there's a relatively untapped market for mons games aimed towards older audiences then this genre might not be so Pokémon centric and stale. Capcom had a good chance to do this with Monster Hunter Stories, but they completely fucked it up by doing the exact full retard thing I mentioned above.
The only games that come to mind that fit this criteria right now are SMT (which outdates Pokémon but is still very niche) and Persona (which is just an SMT spin off that focuses more on the life sim elements anyway).

4 is rough and a slow start and I'd recommend 4 Apocalypse over it, but you kinda need to know some of the story from 4 first.

I'm yet to get around to play SMT but I've heard good things about it.
Touhou Puppet Dance Performance - Shard of Dreams is pretty good but from my experience it was a little awkward to translate but that's cause I'm a tremendous brainlet.
The Dragon Quest Monster Joker series is incredibly autistic when it comes to getting high tier monsters, but it's the fun kind of autism. Joker 2 has the most resources, but Joker 3 is a bit more polished.

It's a difficult game but tons of fun and would be harder to go back to if you started from IV

Again, gen 8 has been in development for a couple of years now. The LGPE sales wont have any effect on gen 8 because it's too late to change anything important.
