Hi /vp/, I'm kind of new to pokemon outside of playing it shortly when I was a kid. I just ordered an original Gameboy DMG, which version of pokemon would be the best for me to start out with?

First of all, download BGB. Even if you buy one of the original games, chances are it won't save because the battery is dead.

I mean, if you had to get one, I'd say to go for Gold or Silver. But you're better off just emulating.

It's your call, anon. I'm all for collecting the physical games, but I think you'd be wasting your time buying them to play.

If anything, buy a flashcart and put all of the roms on there.

Every time I'm tempted to pull out a game made before XY, I pull up the emulated version. You expect it to be fun on the old hardware, but it loses the novelty quick.
Plus the speed up function is a lifesaver.

First of all, good on ya for going original hardware. Having a giant brick with link cable in your cargo pants pockets was half of the experience.

Second of all, Yellow is the definitive version by far. Yellow is superior to Red/Blue just Crystal is superior to Gold/Silver, and Emerald is superior to Ruby/Sapphire, etc. Only get anything that's not a third version the others if you wanna be really autistic about catching them all.

Nah, Gen 2 was for GBC. The C part is why it's also the gen that introduced shiny pokes.

I hope you know what the screen looks like. OG Gameboy screens can degrade pretty badly.

Sucks too because the old dot matrix screen is pretty interesting to look at on a handheld.

Gold or silver. Do yourself a favor though, and get yourself a 3ds. You can play every pokemon game other than lets go on a custom firmware 3ds. You can also get them for anywhere from 100-200 dollars for different models so they're fairly priced.

Do you have a 3ds? Why not just play the games there? It's still on a console even if it's not the original. Plus you can save and transfer the mons to the newer gens.
