How is XD compared to Colosseum? If I liked Colosseum but not enough to replay it, is there any reason to give this a try?

I liked the game itself, but I guess I just felt kind of limited in the kind of team I was able to build? Also didn't really feel like there was much reason to keep playing after the credits rolled, since the only postgame stuff was more colosseum challenges and a few mons it would have been nice to have during the game

Gale of Darkness has 83 Shadow Pokemon (the half of them are in the final area of the game, though) and nine wild Pokemon that can be caught. You also start with an Eevee that you can evolve into any of the five Eeveelutions of the time, so you can catch close to 100 Pokemon in the game, instead of being limited to the 50 of Colosseum.

Unlike Colosseum there's one extra post-game thing you can do, but it requires you to beat a Colosseum with EV-trained Pokemon first before you are able to do it.

Definitely play XD. It adds two particularly large quality of life changes, you can save anywhere, and you can use the purify chamber to purify your pokemon instead of doing it all manually. It makes the game a lot smoother of an experience and is overall better than Colosseum in terms of gameplay.

I just beat XD last night. It has its pros and cons over Colosseum.
>I got used to backtracking in Colosseum - having to walk out of a dungeon to heal up then go back in - but XD is more generous with healing stations within dungeons
>Colosseum's regular trainers were much harder than XD's, I got wiped by a generic or two early on in Colosseum but never lost a battle in XD until the very end of the game
>purification is much faster and easier in XD, since you can work on purifying 15 Pokemon at once - the worst part about endgame Colosseum was purifying everything to trade them over to the GBA games to put them in Box
>XD has a better, more interesting story, and missed shadow Pokemon are both easier and more fun to get
>you don't have to do fucking Mt. Battle to get Lugia

Interested to hear about the extra post-game thing you can do. After the credits rolled, all I did was trade in a mon from Ruby and one from FireRed to wipe out Miror B. again.

I wanted to put them in Box, as you can see. But it took me forever to actually move everything, so I just used PKHeX to transfer things from XD to Box directly.

There are a number of Pokemon that get special moves in XD, now that you mention it. DDance+Outrage Tyranitar and Psycho Boost Lugia come to mind. No higher stats though.

Gen 1 is done. Gen 2 needs some first stage Pokemon which I'll catch in Emerald - Hoothoot, Houndour, Snubbull. Gen 3 needs some mid-stages. Vibrava, Sealeo, Shelgon.

I just need to get through Emerald. That's all that's left. I've played Ruby, Sapphire, FireRed, LeafGreen, Colosseum, and XD so far. Technically I don't need Emerald at all since I could just breed for the gen 2 mons I'm missing, but I want to say goodbye to Hoenn properly.

You have to win the first four fights in Orre Colosseum, you know you're at the fourth when you meet Lovrina. Orre Colosseum works the same as Colosseum Mode in Colosseum where you have to choose Pokemon before battling. Their Pokemon are EV-trained, so you can't beat it with a random team.
After you beat Lovrina, I think you get a mail about some mute Pokemon in Agate. You have to go to Kaminko to clear it and then you get a Lucky Egg. Orre Colosseum is clearly the hardest part.
