Have you ever had a friend you could always rely on, and who -in turn- could rely on you aswell?
Shipping is a fandom thing, Kusaka didn't particularly force any shippy elements to their relation beyond "being chilhood friends".
I think the plot makes clear enough that they feel gratitude for each other: Y towrsa X because of how he encouraged her to pursue her own goals rather than those of her mother, and X towards Y because of the whole Team Plasma ordeal.
This gripe of you is just you being unable to understand a symbiotic friendship. I hope you find somebody like that one day, and who knows, maybe you'll also achieve something else than a friendship with this person.
