>>37496021As someone that hates X/Y, i actually think the starters are maybe the best trio so far. They're the only ones with an actual addressed theme that is also extremely meta: RPG Starter types. They have good synergy in design and typing, the latter actually making an interesting dual-type effectiveness triangle. As a fan of the Trine games i can see them working together perfectly too.
As per design, Greninja is a perfectly balanced and very well executed pokemon. He has dashes of weird, cute, edgy, creative and cool traits that mix perfectly and never overpower one another, making him very expressive and malleable. Chesnaught is great too, but for once i wish Sugimori had actually imprinted his cat ear obsession onto him as i feel like he would benefit from cute ears/horns like his preevos had, because otherwise their absence does feel a bit uncanny and he feels bald. I also agree his Shiny should be the default color scheme. I would love Delphox if it used a Staff instead of a Wand to represent its growth. The wand makes it feel like it just got bigger and nothing more.
Overall they're one of the best trios and i'd probably consider the flat out best if they'd gotten megas that solved those minor gripes. Weirdly enough i'd say they're underrated.
