Speed would become EVEN MORE broken as a direct result of being tied to how often you can perform an action, and everyone would either have to wear a scarf or put full investment in speed in order to assure they get their turn before or at the same time as the opposition, to which it then boils down to making your input as fast as possible.

It will be garbage. Turn based is the best, Action can be good, though it should never be in Pokémon and ATBs are cancer. If a game is good it is ALWAYS in spite of the shitty ATB.

the atb nonsense also imply some timed decisions, which is the opposite of turn based fight and in a sense, the opposite of tactics.

yeah, time pressure is shit if you want to make good decisions even though we all know we have already decided what move we will use in 1 or 2 seconds. turn based is good, removing it would be even worst than removing the ability to weaken the pokemon to catch it

I looked at some gameplay footage on Youtube and it looks kind of mind numbing. I guess it'd be fine if you had a small roster.

The Raidou games are super janky, especially the first one, but they're the only monster collecting ARPGs I know.
Obviously I'd want more engaging combat, but the core idea of fighting alongside 2 Pokemon and giving them commands seems like it has a lot of potential for a Colosseum-style spin-off.

I think a fully realized Pokemon ARPG would be janky no matter how you spin it so instead I'd want it to play like a combination of Digimon World Next Order and Ni No Kuni. The mons would automatically perform generic neutral damaging attacks and their nature would determine things like their movement, whether they'll attack or defend more etc. Your input would be in the form of commanding the mon to perform skills, change stances, and/or get into more advantageous positions.

On an unrelated note, don't play Ni no kuni 2. Never play ni no kuni 2.

Nnk1 actually has you take control of the familiars and has a more interesting plot. Once you start exploring the overworld the game starts to drag its feet though.

Raidou 2 is actually pretty good despite the jank, so I don't think this is necessarily a bad thing. But I see your point.

This is definitely more likely to get a greenlight than one where humans participate directly in fighting, but I'm a bit worried it wouldn't be interactive enough.
