Things went much better against Surge this time around, though Lando the Drowzee was lost on the SS Anne and I only had one selfdestructing Geodude in Rock Tunnel at the cost of Grievous the Machop. I'm a bit bummed about that I've never used a Machamp before and I was looking forward to trying it out.

Well I just paid a heavy Pryce for my seventh gym badge.

I saw the Thunderbolt coming on Froslass, but the Thunderbolt from Lapras tricked me, and took my brand-new Gyarados. Then the realization that Hail was never going to end hit me, and I threw out Phineas to stall, but the first fucking Blizzard was a crit AND a freeze... I have now lost both my Dampbros and all three of my fully trained Water-types in one day.

Absolutely devastating battles all over.

Update on my Y run. I have all the badges now and will be making my way to the E4. Two more encounters left to roll for (Route 21 and Victory Road) and I hope to get some good catches.

Also, I found a shiny Volbeat while tending to my berry bushes. I find growing berries is an effective distraction from the everpresent dread I feel making forward progress in this game.

What are you thinking for your 6th pokemon?

Got all the badges finally but lost yet another member of the team. This time it was in victory road. Especially annoying because he had toxic. I am leaning Gulpin since it learns toxic naturally and maybe give it something like Icebeam for good type coverage. But if I bring zigagoon along, he will be in the champion's league forever and eliminate him as an encounter. Plus the evolution seems to have pretty good defense from what I have seen going through the game.

Defeated Karate King a while back, don't quite remember how(Think it was Sierra and Shaun who handled it).

Also made it through Victory Road (caught an Ursaring with the very last Ball I had, that gave me a scare).

Vs Rival:

Sierra gave it a Lovely Kiss, then ice punched it. It woke up in a fury and cut her with Fury Cutter. Another Lovely Kiss and two Ice Punches took it down.
>Typhlosion
Sent in Tiana, who would have taken a Smokescreen on the way... but it missed. Another Smokescreen was used, but Waterfall hit his mark nonetheless. Flame Wheel failed to impress and a second Waterfall took down Typh.
>Magneton
Switched in Shaun. Got ridiculously lucky as Magneton used Thundershock on the way in and Shaun then got a Fire Punch crit.
>Haunter
It used Confuse Ray, leading Shaun to hit himself.
I then sent in Tiana, and then things started to get scary as he Mean Looked on the switch.
Tiana's Hypnosis missed as Haunter Cursed. I then got a bit lucky again with a Waterfall crit.
>Golbat
Sierra Ice Punched it but failed to KO it in one hit. The combined damage from Curse and a Wing Attack Crit made me decide to switch now that Mean Look was no longer in effect.
I sent in Shaun, who ate a Wing Attack
Confuse Ray then caused him to hurt himself. Golbat then bit him, but he scored a ThunderPunch in return.

I sent in Sierra as Kadabra foresaw the future.
Ice Punch then froze it, leaving me free to finish it off with another Ice Punch.

Time to prepare for the League.

the team is just about ready for the elite 4. Should fight them tomorrow. i need ot level up my normal types though since they are my current best bet against the Dark types since I have no bugs or fighting types. I have wanted to give an ice beam to one of them but I do not have nearly enough money. I figure that Paul will sweep the dragon user and La Llorona will deal with the Ghosts. She will also be my main fighter against the Ice member of the team since she knows Thunderbolt. Chani will provide back-up though again I wish I had the money to get her a flamethrower so I am not so dependent on eruption. Apollo is a weird pokemon but its utility has been great ever since I got it and its rock slide hits like a truck. With Hook I am only using sand attack and headbutt so I might go grab attract for it too.

Super nervous about the champ though.

Overlevelled Taz as a big fuck you to this place in general. I bought Thunder for Grumblina which should help, and went and got B'Junior a Stick, which I should have done ages ago, holy shit.

...holy fuck fellas. If I had not swept Archer... this would have been the end. I was totally unprepared for that Giovanni ambush. But Grumblina hit her Blizzards, based Thompson one-shot everything he needed to, but then when it came down to Benedict vs Kangaskhan I fucking blew it and went for a cheeky Hypnosis when I should have just switched out to someone fresh.

Overall, however, I am on my fucking knees thanking John C. Nuzlocke himself that this wasn't the end. If Grumblina had missed one Blizzard -- if Archer had done ANYTHING other than bend over and die -- I think I would have wiped there for sure. Is that in the original games?

I was taking it slow for a bit due to waiting out Friday for a Drifloon, but everthing paid out - I'm feeling like my team is coming together a bit more and everyone is bringing some unique strengths. I benched Gyro for the time being, just in case something goes horribly awry - I wanted to give Episkyros a whirl and Miyande is in the party for the happiness bonus, so I've got a ton of fliers currently. Also I have a feeling I may encounter some more normal types along the way, so I want to keep my options open for that. I'm a little worried about my rival's eventual Torterra, so I'll hopefully get some good ice moves or an Ice pokemon before the run ends.

Just finished my second badge and I'll probably go back to Eterna Forest for a bit of leveling and trying to catch a team member - I want to catch everyone else up to Episkyros as she put the whole second gym on by herself, essentially.

So this was my first time playing a Gen 3 game and it was pretty fun exploring a new world. Took tons of casualties along the way but since this was only the first of 5 runs through Hoenn, there was a large pool for me to draw on. Still, pretty annoying that I lost my starter again.

Elite four went pretty well, everyone shined at some point but Chani fought the hardest including a clutch earthquake on Steven's Aggron while being under the effects of toxic. Incidentally, I did get flamethrower on her after all when I realized that I could sell all the shit I wasn't using for cash.
La Llorona (Banette) basically swept the ghost trainer solo.
Apollo (Solrock) actually ended up fighting the Walrein line since rockslide was so strong and it was faster. Plus it was bulky enough to take the surfs that got through.
Paul (Walrein) was so fucking bulky and strong, I couldn't believe it. Swept Drake and took on Steven's Metagross 1v1. I thought that was going to become a PP war for a bit since we got stalled with his offense against my bulk and rest.

I was super paranoid for the whole elite 4 run since I have seen others get bodied there. Could not be happier that everyone made it. Plus I can ignore Zigs in the early game now!

Will probably roll for my Sapphire starter later.

Wil really turned out to be the easiest member of the League.

I know that this thing has Explosion, and I really don't want to risk any of my mons eating that... except Willow. I send her in as Forretress tosses out Spikes.
Then Willow works her charm and Attracts Forretress, who is to infatuated to respond.
This is followed up by a Rock Slide crit that also flinches Forretress. Then another Rock Slide as Forretress is still too horny to act. Another Rock Slide, and the bulky bagworm finally goes down.
>Muk
Immediately on coming in, Muk makes it known that it will be obnoxious, using Minimize immediately. Willow once again works her charms.
She then uses Dig, but misses. Luckily Muk is too aroused to do anything during either turn.
It then minimizes again, but Rock Slide hits nonetheless. The next two turns Rock Slide misses, but Muk is unable to handle his attraction to Willow and does nothing. Finally, Muk and Willow exchange 2 Sludge Bombs for two Rock Slides. Down Muk goes.
>Venomoth
I send in Sierra, eating a Psychic for small damage on the way in alongside the spike damage.
Lovely Kiss into Ice Punch, but Venomoth wakes up from the punch and uses Supersonic... missing its target. Body Slam takes it out.
>Crobat
Wing Attack ends up doing easily above 50% of Sierras health, making me realize that if that was a crit I'd be down a mon right now. However, Ice Punch KO's the bat before it can do any more harm.

Koga required some thought, but I wouldn't say he was outright hard. Willow played a key role here.

Sierra(my only hope of beating Machamp without another death) comes in as Onix sets up Sandstorm.
A single Ice Punch KOs it.

This is particularly scary since Cross Chop will kill easily with a crit.
Either way. Lovely Kiss to start with sets the mood.
Then Sierra unleashes her righteous fury with five Ice Punches in a row to end Machamp. Three would have been enough, but Bruno threw in a Max Potion in the middle.

Machamp scared the shit out of me here. Feels sad to lose Tiana before she could even get a kill in the League, since she has been one of my most reliable teammates since I got her back in Ecruteak.

I remember this thing having Destiny Bond, so I'm playing really carefully here.
Gengar Licks Shaun and gets Thunder Wave'd for her trouble. A ThunderPunch Crit followed by Gengar Cursing eliminates the pesky Ghost.
>Houndoom
It fires off a Flamethrower that does huge damage... and burns Shaun. Thunder Wave will keep it from sweeping my team, in any case. Between burn and curse damage, Shaun goes into the red.
I send in Willow as Houndoom gets fully paralyzed, but here I get treated to some hilarious, but annoying shenanigans.
Rock Slide misses, and Willow gets roared out in favor of Sierra.
I swap Willow back in as Houndoom once again gets fully paralyzed.
Rock Slide misses AGAIN. Houndoom gets paralyzed AGAIN.
I go for Low Kick but still miss. Houndoom once again gets fully paralyzed.
The next Low Kick hits, but so does Crunch, and it lowers SpDef, so another his is now sure to kill Willow. At this point Dig is a reliable kill option though, so I go for that, and Houndoom finally falls.
>MURKROW
Taking a risk and switching out- not sure if Willow can live a Faint Attack now, but Pursuit would obviously be even worse. But I'm lucky and it is indeed Faint Attack that is being used, as Sunni gets into the fray. Another Faint Attack leaves Sunni at rather low health, but Slash just tears the Murkrow apart, no crit needed.

The multiple misses on Houndoom would have made me very angry if it wasn't for the fact that it got fully paralyzed more often than not.

Littlefoot sets up Reflect, Gyarados sets up Rain Dance. Littlefoot proceeds to Light Screen, and Gyarados' Surf does very little.
Body Slam does a decent chunk of damage, and Gyarados hits back with Flail.
The next Body Slam paralyzes, and Gyarados misses a Hyper Beam. I forget that missed Hyper Beams don't need to recharge, so I start up Solar Beam. Hyper Beam hits Littlefoot, but Reflect keeps the damage down on its final turn as the rain also fades. Solar Beam then finishes of Gyarados with an unnecessary crit as Light Screen fades.
>Dragonite#1
Aware that one of the three Dragonites have Blizzard, I decide to set up Light Screen again. Turns out to be a good choice, as it immediately goes for Blizzard.
I send in Sunni, and Dragonite Hyper Beam her. During the recharge, Sunni scores a Slash crit, putting Dragonite close to the red but not quite in it. Knowing another Hyper Beam can kill, I send in Willow, who tanks the Hyper Beam pretty well on switch in. A Rock Slide during the recharge takes down the Dragonite.
>Aerodactyl
Aerodactyl Rock Slides Willow, who flirts with him in response.
The next turn I use a Hyper Potion on Willow as Aerodactyl fails to attack. Willow then misses a Rock Slide as Aero fawns over her.
They exchange Rock Slides, before Aero once again loses himself to lust and gets Low Kicked in the groin.
>Charizard
Charizard scores a Flamethrower crit, leaving Willow in the red, but Rock Slide takes him out in one hit.

This should be the Thunder Dragonite, so I send in Shaun. Dragonite misses a Thunder on the switch, proving my suspicion correct. It then uses Twister as it gets Thunder Waved. Thunderpunch then does surprisingly good damage, with another Twister not really impressing. Another ThunderPunch puts Dragonite on low health as it misses another Thunder. Knowing the final Dragonite can hit hard with Outrage, I set Light Screen up already, as this Dragonite uses Thunder Wave. Held Przcureberry comes through once again.
A fnal ThunderPunch ends the Dragon.

I don't really have any safe switch-ins, so I decide to stay in with the damaged but not that badly damaged Shaun, and Thunder Wave the Dragonite. However, this Dragonite ain't taking that shit and shoots Shaun dead with Hyper Beam. Sad loss, but the recharge turn lets Sierra safely Ice Punch to end the league.

This fight was rough, and losing Shaun who was arguably just as much a key player of my team as Tiana sucks. Still, I feel the league went well overall. Now to go to Kanto.

I just wanted to play Emerald with the new mons, I didn't sign up for this shit. After losing more times than I care to admit I finally managed to beat Roxanne. I'm still trying to figure out why my stupid brain made me lead with Despacito when Shrek resists Rock Slide. I already have Water and Grass on my team so it's not a huge loss, but I would've preferred to lose Toad if anything.

Well speaking of the poor bastard I lost him to Totem Marowak as well as an Ekans in a grinding accident.

Y'see, I was trying to find a safe spot to switch into Wishiwashi but it just wasn't happening. Marowak and Salazzle's assault is brutal.

So I figured I'd make a sacrifice rather than risk wiping, and Dartrix was my choice.
At least he's livin' it up in the Poke Pelago with my poor Ekans, and everyone else in the Box so far

Hey everyone, been having a a blast in Sapphire.

OK so some highlights/lowlights of the run

>Route 110 is stacked with so many fun pokemon that I used repel to get through it until I got surf so I could finally catch a wingull and eliminate it as an encounter. I ended up rolling a fucking oddish there.

I'm aware that you can get them, with like romhacks, save-editors, or just through using vba-link etc, but i'm curious as to the general rule on using them? Like, if I get a haunter, is there a general rule on when I should evolve it? I have a randomizer that had an option to remove trade evos, and make them all evolve at lvl 37 for example, or 37 with their evo item.

Before my Misty fight, Ville just reached level 48 and Amnesia.

Surf criticals, in the rain, and does a chunk more than half Dory's health. Yeah, pulling Ville out was a good idea.
Another Rain Dance Surf from Starmie puts Dory in the red, but nowhere near KO, as Dory finishes the battle with Spark.

In most cases, I just trade them immediately.
If you feel like that's cheap, just put off the evolution until 10 levels later(assuming it doesn't prevent your mon from learning moves of course).

I get the point of catching only the first pokemon of an area, to prevent people from farming optimal teams, but doesn't that make runs too reliant on RNG and lead to a lot of dupes, and for people with dupes rules, nothing at all? Dupes clause is meant to revoke that because in things like autismlocke it would be really hard to pull off.
The middle ground is the strike system. You get a dupes and 2 encounters or so to find something new. Nothing new and you simply dont get an encounter there.
Its all about self imposed challenges and how far you want to take it

Some mons stop learning moves when they evolve. Just go to bulbapedia or whatever and see if there’s a certain move they learn pre evolution that you want that they won’t learn after they evolve and plan it that way.

Once you hit Kanto in Gold or Silver, all the gym leaders are quickly beatable assuming you can get around the map to meet them, since they are mostly weaker than the E4 you have already beaten. Blue is the only real exception. This is not really the case in HGSS.
Speaking of which... I just took him on.

Willow and Pidgeot exchange two Rock Slides and Wing Attacks, causing the bird to go down.

I send in Littlefoot, who eats a Fury Attack. Are we sure this Rhydon isn't Cera's father?
Littlefoot starts charging as Rhydon sets up a Sandstorm, then blasts him out of existance with Solar Beam.
>Exeggutor
I send in Sunni, who gets Egg Bombed.
Sunni Slashes as Exeggutor starts charging, and a second Slash saves Sunni from an early death.
>Alakazam
I send in Sierra, who takes a Psychic.
Alakazam then sets up Reflect before being given a Lovely Kiss.
Sierra then gives him an Ice Punch, but it seems to stir him back awake, as the next turn, he uses Psychic. Another Ice Punch finishes him off though.
>Arcanine
I send in Willow, who gets burned by Flamethrower. I use a Burn Heal, and arcanine decides to Roar at Willow. This actually works out in my favor as Dory is sent in.
Arcanine uses Extremespeed before getting hit by Confuse Ray, and then the next turn, it hits itself, allowing Dory to take it out with Surf.
>Gyarados
Blue decides to be an idiot and use Twister. Spark ends up paralyzing Gyarados, and one more Spark ends the Gym Battle.

This fight could have ended up a lot harder, but I got a fair bit of lucky breaks, especially on the Arcanine.

Time to get ready for Red, and to break out those Return TMs I've been stashing during my run. By the time I face Red, both Ursaring and Furret should be maxed out in happiness(Furret probably has been for a long time).

That abysmal speed and deceptively low bulk will fuck you over later. I can never keep Wishiwashi alive. The garbage HP completely undermines the bulk and it's nowhere near as broken as it seems after the mid-game.

After realizing that my team is completely unthreatened by anything outside Red, even while grinding, I realized that the sheer tedium of leveling my mons up all the way to Red's levels isn't worth it. I got them to 65-ish(I can't count how many times I beat the E4), but then I decided to use the Coin Case glitch on my Silver version to get Rare Candies. The alternative is spending hours on hours on hours on something that bores the life out of me.

If there was a some better way to grind in Gold, or if my team was at any risk of actually dying, I'd stick with grinding, but at this point I just removed pure undiluted tedium.

My team is now on par with Red in levels thanks to this, and I'm about to take him on. Gonna be honest about the fact that I did it.

I send out Littlefoot. Pikachu turns up the Charm as Light Screen is set up.
Pikachu's Thunder then causes paralysis, but Reflect also comes up.
Both mons exchange two Thunders and Body Slams, resulting in Pika also being paralyzed.
The turn after that both are fully as Light Screen fades.
Pikachu uses Charm against the fully paralyzed Littlefoot as Reflect fades.
Red uses a Full Restore as Littlefoot sets up another Reflect.
Thunder and Light Screen are exchanged.
After two turns of thunder misses and fully paralyzed Littlefoot, I lose my coola and send in Sunni. Setting up the Screens for her was kinda the point in the first place. Pikachu misses the Thunder on the switch in as Reflect fades.

At this point, I decide to let Sunni have a go at it for a while. Psychic does a fair chunk, but Return KOs in return(ugh).

The mon I was probably the most worried about turns out to be the least impressive opponent of them all, as Sunni manages to 2HKO it with Return, and all it does inbetween is get Amnesia.
Venusaur
Sunni might be able to outspeed it, but the damage from Espeon makes me worried, since Sunni's Special def is a bit wimpy. I send in
Sierra as Venusaur sets up Sunny Day.
I use Lovely Kiss in case I'll need two Psychics and to prevent Solar Beams. There was no need to worry as Psychic OHKOs.

Started a Y Nuzlocke! Never played through X or Y and I'm keeping Exp Share off and not using any gift mons because I've heard you get a couple of them. Hopefully that makes what are apparently the easiest games in the series quite a bit harder.

Haven't had any trouble yet, caught a Pansear in Santalune Forest and I've never used one before but he learnt Incinerate right before the Bug-type gym, which was nice.

Having a lot of fun, the Kalos region is comfy so far. On to Lumiose!

Lost Benji while I wasn't paying attention, oops. Couldn't catch the free Snorlax on Route 6 but probably wouldn't have used it anyway. Changed Wukong's name at the name rater to something even more fitting. I've already used a Mawile recently so I boxed Chomps but she was still a pretty cool find. I really want to use Dwebble but it evolves so late so I'm using Hippopotas instead, it's alright I guess.

Mega evolving Gyarados i ice fanged everything until the flygon got a screech in and changed to Gardevoir to finish off salamence Flygon and Kingdra. My team was very well equipped for this guy despite him always giving me trouble

Leading with Manectric i beat down skarmory after a spike setup for him. As he changes in aggron i kill it with my mega swampert after he sturdy heals twice.
Cradly is where things get tricky since i didnt have a clear counter. and to make matters better my absol decided to commit suicide by confuse ray. This was the closest id ever gotten to a clean league run in awhile and i lost it to a confusion hitting 30% of its health.
I finished off Cradily with Pinsir however and Claydol couldnt do anything to Gyarados. Armaldo went down with help from Swampert meaning only his blasted metagross was left. Having lost quite a lot of mons to it in earlier runs i took no chances and earthquaked immedeatly. That was not enough for a OHKO and swampert lives in the red after a zen headbutt
Fucker then giga impacts me after using my first potion of the battle. but Swampert lives it and i win the battle.
Omega ruby complete. But i dont think il ever get to use this many megas ever again. it was fun to be able to do that in a nuzlocke however

Il be back for Alpha sapphire eventually. Cant help but feel i might have cheesed this fight a bit too much but no matter. ive used up just about every mega i could get for the next runs. Will have to look into making a new template. the one i have doesn't have much space left. Any suggestions?

I like the personalization anon, I'll be on the lookout for further updates!

As for me, I have been hard at the grind after half my team died in that accursed Radio Tower. First I backtracked to the Whirl Islands and snatched up a Horsea, then I trudged forward through Ice Path and captured a Swinub and a Raticate. I was going to count the other half of Dark Cave as a separate place, but it was a Wobbufett so I just killed the fucker. Not about to waste my time training that anyways.

I'll probably stick a couple more levels on the new recruits and then try my luck with Claire. I'm really hoping that they can make it to the E4, Mamoswine and Kingdra would be a tremendous help with Lance.

Can't say much personally, but nercrozma basically near wiped my team first time through, they were all slightly overleveled though, and I had bred egg movesets and ideal natures on them along the way, still all nearly got nuked, outsped an obliterated. Totem pokemon can be real pain with pokemon summoning, so you'd probably get fugged if you try to run 2-3 pokemon.

Probably not going to be a difficult run, but I wanted to do something with Let's Go Eevee. Just gonna be a partner-only run, deleting the save if I let my buddy die. Catching one mon a zone for experience, banking it, then running from the rest.

I use the prop images on bulbapedia for the most part. At most I recolor them. The only real spriting I've done myself is the boots on Boots and the eyebrow/eyelashes on Snake.
