granted quite a lot of models need tweaks to colouring and/or posing and stances but there are also many that are bursting with personality which you don't get from 2 dimensional sprites. Some designs like Flabebe, Blacepholon and others really kind of rely on the ability to pan a camera to get a sense of perspective.
Its a natural move for something focused on living creatures that will obviously be able to have more flexibility though 3D models. Granted they can defintely improve on the models though.
