It's a real pain in the ass to get some fully evolved pokemon on your team since you mostly can't directly recruit them.
Meaning you have to grind, especially bad if they're early game or level 1 dungeon exclusive, or go through several dungeons just to get the evolution items.

It's a good game but:

Having to run to your friend areas after EVERY dungeon
When I was 9 years old the ending of the story made me fucking cry, because I wasn't very good at English at the time (I'm Euro) I thought my main character had just fucking died

Man I fucking love Rescue Team and Explorers I still play them on emulator to this day. Also I met a few girls who loved the cutesy part of PMD so I managed to score a grand total of 3 dates with it as well.

Absolutely not, the 2D ones were peak. The 3D ones are like lobotimized versions. But the idea is that it's a game with pokemon and randomized dungeons to dungeon crawl in, it's about making your pokemon team and clearing dungeons doing special missions in them (including bossfights, rescues, mini-bosses, that kinda stuff). If you play Explorers of Sky you also get a surprisingly decent plot alongside it.

But mainline Pokemon games don't have to be isekai to be immersive and that world stretches suspension of disbelief just as much.

Also, this. I ended up just dropping the game after the credits, and declaring it done, because the fact that my partner no longer greeted me every morning really, really made me sad. All the joy of the game seemed to vanish instantly. Shame, because I heard the epilogue is otherwise good.

Friend areas were cool as fuck - it was fun getting a new legendary and seeing their home for the first time.

What wasn't cool as fuck was having to go to every single friend area every time you finished a mission and needed to get your team together again.

i like it because it essentially translates the pokemon combat system into a 3d space which adds another layer of strategy/streamlines exploration, the music is cool, and the plots, while they vary in quality (what even happened in the last 1/4 of super MD?) and have suffered recently from repetition, are at least something different from the mainline (which I'm tired of btw - i've played them all since R/B)
