Who do you think will evolve next? I'm betting Torracat will evolve soon and Brionne will evolve near the end of the series. Did your expectations for the starters in the anime and their potential evolutions change over the course of the generation?

Ash WILL fight in the league with his own Incineroar against Hau's Decidueye, and lose in a big climatic battle. The final will have Ash in the crowd cheering on Hau's Decidueye, who will lose to Professor's Incineroar. This will be not one of the most heartbreaking leagues, but definitely one of the most salty

Pretty much. Torracat to evolve next, Brionne in time to show off Oceanic Operetta in-battle before the end of the series and Hau will show up at the League with an already-evolved Decidueye.

I'm just being realistic. I could care less about Ash winning the league. You really think they wont have it be something stupid, like Decidueye pinning him down with a Spirit Shackle and then using his Z move?
I don't know why I'm trying to have actual conversations here. I'm sure someone who spends too much time here will think I'm some "seething owlfag" or "hyped barafag." At this point I'm just expecting the anime to post us off in any way they can. But you guys can run to your safe space by poking names at people and pretending your protagonist wont lose in another shitty matchup

So here is what I predict: Ash will fight Kukui (Masked Royal), Kaki and Hau, defeating them all and facing Illima on the finals. Suiren and Molayne might be on the league as well, but I don't think that Gladion will be. We might also see Kahili, if they propely intoduce her on the golf episode. Illima will win the league.

I don't know if Torracat or Brionne will evolve. Torracat could end up like Pignite and not evolve ever again, even though Incineroar is popular. There is no upcoming anime merch showing off Incineroar, and we had merch for stuff such as Vikavolt, Brionne, and Meltan that had recently appeared in or will appear in the anime soon. And Brionne could end up like an Axew situation: the Pokemon wants to evolve, but there is not enough time in series for this to happen.

This is what I think will happen in Alola League.

First match (1-on-1): Ash VS Ilima: Pikachu VS Eevee: Ash wins

Preliminary battles (3-on-3): Ash VS Kiawe: Ash wins

Full battles:
Ash VS Hau - Ash wins
Ash VS Gladion - Ash wins
Ash VS Kukui/The Masked Royal - Kukui/Masked Royal wins

I see a 25% chance of Ash using reserves for this league. The fact that he still has 4 Pokemon after all of this time seems to lend this case.

Torracat will evolve because it is the "serious" mon with a backstory and everything. There is a narrative reason for it to reach the end stage, because it means the culmination of its journey.

Rowlet won't evolve because it is the comic relief owl that sleeps in Ash's backpack and they don't want to lose that.

Brionne could go either way, but I can see it not evolving.

No, what does mean it will is when Ida used Oceanic Operetta, the Z-Move name text that pops up with every other Z-Move used didn't appear (even Charizard got that in the last episode). It happened in her first appearance in Ep 40 too when she'd used Hydro Canon in her performance then too, but that time Lana used it shortly after Ida and got the text on-screen. Given they don't show a Z-Move without flashing the text up usually, I'm more than willing to bet Lana will use Oceanic Operetta in a battle scenario and get the text flash finally.
