A better example is Jessie, James, and Meowth, who now officially exist in both the anime and the game universe. However, the main difference is Meowth can’t talk in the games but can in the anime. So for Ash-Greninja, we obviously know Ash released Greninja in Kalos but in the games he gave it to SM’s protagonist. So he exists, just as a game equivalent.
