I made a post on /v/ but didn't really get what I was looking for, this thread is pretty much what I made a while ago.

Are there any good vpets for android that actually evolve? They don't have to battle, but if they did that would be cool. If they're ad-free that would be awesome too.

There are two Tamagotchi apps, I believe. One is an emulation of the original pet, and costs about a dollar or something, but it's pretty solid. The other is My Tamagotchi Forever, a free game with more modern characters and features.

I find it depressing that companies like this are literally going out of their way to create something extremely technologically regressive in a day and age where we COULD have Tamagotchi's with razor sharp, beautiful, high resolution, fully-animated pixel art on tiny 1080p~2160p res screens and much higher level of interactivity from an actual gameplay perspective. The sole reason they haven't gone out of business is due to their aptitude at exploiting nostalgiafags and stringing them along like the sad masochists they are. What the fuck kinda world am I even living in, ffs?

By making them cheap, keeps production costs down. Would be really cool though to have one cutting edge, but is high risk and as you pointed out, nostalgia sells hard.
Wonder if that means the new Digimon X-antibody pet will do worse since is another one based on the original's display instead of a remake of Pendulum X.
