The problem with accepting reviews of this game from /vp/ is that almost none of us have played it
>inb4 I shouldn’t have to eat shit to know it’s bad
Look, I’m not saying it was the best game Pokémon ever shat out, but it really isn’t pure garbage.
It’s ok. If you base a game’s worth on difficulty then this is not the game for you. If you base a game’s worth on feel or aesthetic then you’d like this game if you were a genwunner like me. If you just want a comfy region and the ability to play the game with literally whatever gen 1 Pokémon meets your fancy, you’ll love this.
I played it out of pure compulsion for something new as I’m desperately bored with the series as it is. Not the best $100 spent but then again video games are never a good place to spend money. I will still say I had fun, but it was hollow.
There’s no denying it was flawed; capture mechanics require you to grind species for a better catch rate, but grinding in this game over levels you and removed any modicum if challenge you may have tried to impose unless you box your mons, which thankfully don’t heal them in this game, or else revives and potions would have zero point. Candies were a mistake, yes it’s kind of interesting to directly buff a stat up to 200 times but restricted online drops that anyway and sets happiness to 70 because happiness also influences base stats. Removal of abilities made choosing my team harder, but in a way I liked, because it forced me to really pin down my favorites regardless of viability. The removal of items also intrigued me but ultimately was not impressed with the way these removals affected pvp.
The anime / manga references were a nice touch, the feel of having 3D models in following and riding were awesome, and overworld spawn mechanics are my new favorite implementation.
It needed a lot of work but all in all, it’s not complete trash, just not great.
