It doesn't change stats but other things make it unfair. You can't hold three of the same item but the enemy can. They have items so rare it would take hours of mystery gift grinding to get them. They always seem to crit with hyper beam. I believe they have perfect IV's as well

Battle Pyramid was way worse than that. You need specific Pokemon for it and even that's really difficult when your items are running low.
