Level design peaked with Hoenn and Sinnoh. It's been a downward spiral ever since.

It's not the games fault that Japanese kids were so dumb that they couldn't figure out basic puzzles in a children's game. And wtf are you even on about? Gen4 was the last game where mythicals/legendaries were treated with dignity and not used as gift handouts.

mt. coronet was great
it feels huge but it has less tiles compared to mt. moon and the tunnel leading to lavender town
you only go through each section once anyways

You can literally skip Dark Cave, Ruins of Alph and Mt Mortar, Union Cave takes no longer than 10 minutes and Tohjo Falls 2. Victory Road is shorter than Gen 1, Mt Moon is smaller than a gym, Seafoam Islands is just a room and you don’t need to enter the Rock Tunnel.
I hope Ice Path and Mt Silver aren’t problems.

While I wouldn't say it was difficult, like the Japanese retards who whined about it, Mt. Coronet is a straight up mess compared to Mt. Silver in HG/SS, for example.

Remade Mt. Silver kept some of the original aspects while expanding on them and made for a fun exploration section, Mt. Coronet is probably the most boring cave section in the entire series.

And Twist Mountain wasn't half bad either.

If you consider level design isolated areas, then the best is actually Unova. It has the best designed places in the series when they are isolated. Hoenn is the better region because it has a good level design for isolated areas, but it also connects all these areas extremely well. While Unova's linearity hinders its region. Sinnoh is Hoenn 2.0, but it isn't nearly as good.

I agree but there are still major issues with them. The general layout of the regions themselves was fine, but several specific areas were a slog. Mt Coronet and Wayward Cave were needlessly long hassles that were over-reliant on repels and HMs. Hoenn was great until after Mosedeep since then you're forced into huge water areas with little variation in environment and wild/trainer encounters.

As much as I dislike Gen 5, B2W2's cave design was the best for how HMs were mostly optional and players could choose to get through it in water or land.
