PokeRide is a poor substitute for HMs. Part of the satisfaction of earning these abilities is that your own Pokemon can use them. I don't want to use some shitty rentals.
What they should've done is either;
Made HMs a fifth move that is overworld-only, removing the problem of them taking up a move slot
OR
Have certain abilities be innate. For example, all Scyther should be able to cut down bushes, and all Machamp should have Strength. Each Pokemon has at least one HM 'built in' to its physiology. Using them in the overworld is unlocked through gym badges as normal.
