You will always want max speed to at least speed tie with opponents that have the same pokemon if the match ever comes down to that.
Max Atk/SpA is also necessary and any defensive investment doesn't make much difference because offensive Pokemon are typically frail regardless.
Defensive Pokemon don't have such cookie cutter spreads and they get more specialized as the meta progresses.
For example Celesteela early on just ran max HP/SpD but now they run enough defense to live a mega medichams HJK or you can run 248HP/104 Def/156 SpD to handle mega pinsir better while still beating lele.
