Hands down best game as far as mechanics go. You either haven’t played competitive, are just straight up bad at pokemin or a furry in denial if you don’t agree. If competitive isn’t your bag that’s one thing but USUM have objectively the best battle mechanics of any game in the series.

The ultras are a bit harder, but especially the e4 have a way better selection of pokemon. They both somehow managed to have good things, but not include those things in both versions. sm have looker and anabel at the end, has a more interesting story (but it's still not very good, and takes up a lot of time), has a better champion/final battle. um has a better distribution of pokemon, some amazing music remixes, and less tedious trials. I guess ultra is the way to go. It's hard enough to replay them even as someone who likes the games, but especially since I liked little things from both

Not really. You don't end up with things like the Gen 4 legends without intense thought.

Not only do they have basis in Shinto stuff, but they're also based in Abrahamic religions and also matter/antimatter and the physical states of matter all at the same time.

I haven't played SM, but that doesn't seem like far of a stretch. I've always thought XY was too lacking and the only thing it had going for itself was "dude, muh 3D and mega evolutions". They did admittedly introduce a few good features though.

Newsflash: Every box legend has a lot of thought put into their design. That's because they're the face of the games and the story. I'm talking about the "average" Gen 4 Pokemon. A koala that is permanently asleep because it eats eucalyptus, which were transplanted to the Alola region, or a magosteen that developed a hard stem to protect itself from wild bird Pokemon, have more thought in their design than, say, a generic cherry Pokemon or a random fish with butterfly wings.

The designs are hit and miss, as usual. The deal breaker is that not only was there a pathetic amount of new pokémon introduced, but close to a third of them were legendary pokémon that I'd catch and box forever.

I just don't really hate any Pokemon and I'm not quick to hate anything. If I'm not into their designs I just don't use them unless I decide to try them out in a playthrough to spice it up. I'll get them for dex filler but I don't say to myself that I'll never be caught dead using it or anything like that. Most of the ones I marked with the bright green (barring legends) are ones I've used in playthroughs and learned to love them.

LGPE was boring as shit and I only completed the main story for the sake of completing it. Only upside I really got out of it was that my mom enjoyed trying to help catch mons since she likes the cutesy ones but can't play games to save her life. If it wasn't for her I wouldn't have gotten it, honestly.
