>>37544454>based on a specific animal>based onthis is the part you fuckers skip over. Pokemon have a basis in certain real concepts and species, that doesn't mean that any interpretation of one must slavishly trace itself to them. Take mightyena for example, which looks somewhere between wolves and hyenas, not directly like either. So interprating it solely as a hyena or as wolf or vice versa, actually doesn't do the overall design of mightyena, a fantasy creature, justice because it totally removes the creative and fantastical from it.
so okay an Arvalis example, Mr.Mime is, what? a mime? no its not its a Mr. Mime. So exactly what it looks like at a textural level, how its anatomy works, how the specifics of it's barrier-forming abilities work etc. are there to be interpreted because pokemon designs are sort of simplified, representational. I'm not even saying Arvalis' design is good, I'm saying its an interpretation, not a misinterpretation, but an interpretation. That doesn't make it good, but sanctimonious hand wringing about what a Mr. Mime *should* look like is just fucking autistic, and lacking in any creative interprative skills. If you want your pokemon to all be neat one-for-one transpositions of concepts then you're a boring, obstinate fuck.
