My big brother is 10 years older than me and the anime came to my country in 2000, so I basically watched it from when I was a tiny baby, since my bro would watch it with me. And my first game was Emerald and I got it in like 2008 I think. So about 8 or 9.

10. Gen 1 released shortly before my 11th birthday in NA so I'm clocking 20 full years with the series as of about 2 months ago and about 7 years in pure play hours.

20. Earliest I can remember giving a shit was when I was 7. Have a very vivid memory of moving into a new house, on the first day I was laying in my bad playing Pokémon Red and doing the slot machines over and over.

My older brother and I got Gameboy Color's for Christmas I was 5 at the time. The first game I actually got was Gold version but I'm pretty sure I started watching the show before then.

My parents were ultra religious and hated Pokemon due to them having evolutions. I had to play the games on emulator. I was a gentwoer for the first year or two before getting into later gens.

A couple of memories:

Some slightly older kids at my elementary school spread a rumor that Red version was going to be harder than Blue version.

My neighbor started watching the cartoon before I did and wanted to play a pretend game of pokemon with me and some other friends. Each of us pretended to be a pokemon; I was squirtle and acted like a squirrel because I had no idea what it even looked like.

I had a similar experience when I was at school before I started playing Pokemon. I was supposed to be Ekans and was told to use diff so I actually started digging like a fucking madman. Lol

Anywho...

I'm 29 and started playing when I was 8. Based Grandma bought me and my older brother Red and Blue, a new gameboy color, and a link cable during our trip to Hawaii for my aunt and uncle's wedding.

So when I haerd about Sun and Moon being based in Hawaii, the nostalgia kicked me hard. Playing through Sun, some of the battle backgrounds seemed like perfect representations of what I remember Hawaii looking like.

16, started seeing merch for it at my local import shop. Still regret not picking up more of it in the long run specially the cards. Played every mainline game with various levels of interest over the years. Now slowly sharing it with my niece and cousin's son.
