At one point when she was out of hospital she caught a Bounsweet to act as Mallow's little sister and keep her company. She ended up going back into hospital, again apologizing that she couldn't be with Mallow every time she visited. Mallow eventually got sick of her apologizing and yelled at her. Mallow was probably used to her going in and out of hospital and had no way of knowing that this time she wouldn't come out. Her mother ultimately died shortly after that encounter, before Mallow had the chance to calm down and make up. Understandably this has been tearing her up inside ever since.
