>>37541914It's my second least favourite region in the series due to few reasons.
Firstly, RSE introduced a lot of trashy Pokemon. I say it while considering both their design and their in-game usability. My taste aside, lack of physical/special split as well as weak TM pool greatly reduce the number of "good" Pokemon. Bug types are trash. Dark types are needlessly worse. Then there are naturally shitty Pokemon like Spinda, Skitty, Nosepass, Sableye, Minun, Plusle etc. Unlike in RBY and GSC, enemies seem more competent in third gen so it's a real problem when quarter of your Pokedex is garbage.
Secondly, while I recognize and appreciate the themes of Hoenn (natural environment and weather conditions), I fucking despise water routes with the passion in RSE. Water is boring to look at, wild encounters are annoying and the construction of routes can be summed up by "it's either a straight blue line or a complete clusterfuck". The last quarter of the Hoenn just sucks.
Thirdly, the amount of backtracking in the region is astounding. Every time you see water in early game (so almost everywhere) you know there is some shit hidden near it. The entire part near Mauville is laughable when you go to the north, clear Meteor Falls, go through Rustboro for the third time, go back to Mauville, go north again, beat Flannery, go back to the fucking beginning of the game to beat Norman and finally go back to Mauville AGAIN. Then there is Route 123 which is pure autism with ledges. Of course, let's not forget about Trick Master House.
Lastly, there is no postgame in RSE as far as I'm aware. You beat the game, see credits, catch Rayquaza, go on a boat and maybe try Battle Tower once. That's it for RS. Emerald removes Rayquaza while adding Terra Cave, Marine Cave, Steven match and Battle Frontier. It's cool if you are interested in endless battles but I'm not. Especially in the generation with finite TMs.
ORAS fixes most of the things I've listed and I like them for it.
