>>37557729Anon, take solace in that I deeply, utterly connect with every line of your post.
>>37557638Pokken does a better job then smash competitively(since it's actually designed for competitive play unlike smash, so it has way less jank and way, way better character/roster balance) and in terms of representing it's pokemon as unique characters
As an example, Sceptile's ninja themed, and has leaf shuriken that can be thrown at different angles or hield in places as space controlling projectils, leaf blade acts as a mid range whiff punish tool and is themed like a Iado katakana slash, he's got an izunaa drop antt-air grab, a wooden log substitution move, and a ton of other ground traps and giga drain as a long range grab, so basically lock the enemy in placer with traps, and then use leaf blade or giga draiin as mixup tools as they are trying to avoid/get around the traps or use the izuna drop if they try to jump out of it,
>>37557700There's fucking 800 pokemon now, there's no way that your obscure favorite pokemon is going to be playtable, statistically. And for the game to be competitively viable, the roster size needs to not be giant: 50-60 characters is too much.
What do you expect them to do then, NOT use popular pokemon? When popular pokemon, will, you know, please the most amount of people? It's not as if they ONLY picked shillmons either, there's more niche but still fan favorites like Weavile, Machamp, Aegislash, Scizor, CHandelure, etc. Basically every type is represented as well.
I honestly think the roster is almost perfect as you could realistically get, aside from libre, shadow mewtwo, croagunk, and empoleon
