>>37564177Pokemon from the same line share similar design elements, breaking news. If you give it a bit more thought you can spot that every stage has their own unique and distinct elements that the other doesn't.
>Chikorita lineEvery Pokemon has different leaf/antenna and body color, the third stage changes eye color, Chikorita has little bulbs which it uses for the vines, Bayleef has a leaf collar, Meganium has a full-blown flower with its neck acting as a pistil and antennas as a stamen. Also, the body can be a mix of various dinosaurs and prehistoric creatures
>Totodile lineTotodile is a crocodile, Feraligatr is an alligator. Croconaw, as a middle evolution, gets caught in between this transition so it received additional design trait in form of caveman cloth pattern.
>CyndaquilDefinitely least complex design. Although Cyndaquil isn't based purely on one animal, it has a body of an echidna, with anteater snout and other characteristics of a shrew. Its fire on the back is also reminiscent of porcupine's quills. Quilava is a weasel-like creature with two fire sources on it's back, one on the head giving it a mohawk-esque look and one on the lower part giving it a look of a fire tail. Typhlosion is a honey badger with its main design point being the fire source on its neck, looking like a collar or mane. Although a bit more could be done with this design but it's still a favorite for many.
Now look at the Fakemons in the original post
A grass gecko, a gecko-pterodactyl, pterodactyl,
A fire kitten, a cat, a big-cat,
A water hippo, hippo with the learning-to-swim tubes, a hippo wrestler/boxer.
These aren't the worst, but the lack of ambiguity and elements of other species is what's stopping these design to look on par with the original designs. Also, a few elements don't really work, (boring wings, random tree tail, random fire on mane)
