Justifications exist for why it isn't one, but it's still a little wonky.
>>37556665It doesn't need to be literally the sun, it still clearly is a personification of it -- a common thing in Pokémon designs, especially legendaries. And if you're going to personify the sun, most people would've gone down the Fire Type route.
The main reasons Solgaleo can be chalked up as not being Fire Type are because they wanted it and Lunala to share a Type because they both evolve from Cosmoem, because Pyroar was released the gen before and they didn't want it to be too similar, and because of the alchemical origins of the Pokémon.
