Actually they said the manga followed on with the RGB artworks and besides Tajiri claiming it's the closest to his Pokemon visions. The manga isn't far from the games.

You are leaving out one important detail with the TCG sleeves artwork. Blue always picks the starter that is super effective against the type you pick. Therefore the Venusaur in that artwork belongs to Red, Charizard to Blue.

But it's representing FRLG, not the starters that they chose since the Charizard is very clearly on Red's side (firered) while the Venusaur is very Clearly on Blue's side (who's Green in Japan and this is a card sleeve set for that so hence Leafgreen). Face facts, FRLG Red has a Charizard and is depicted with one on everything except the bookmark while RBG Red has Venusaur.

I don't even like Charizard and love Venusaur, but the official art/games make this damn clear with the designs of Red.

Leaf can only have one Squirtle.
Oak can restock and get new starters for new trainers when he runs out.

Maybe that pokemon hoarder video was more accurate than we thought...besides the figures are just that, figures. May's usually depicted with a Torchic and Brendan with a Treeko yet May has a Mudkip on her figure.

I wouldn't say that Charizard is "very clearly" on Red's side, it actually is right on the divider line, along with Venusaur. Actually if you look more at it, both Charizard AND Venusaurs' mass appear more on Red's side if you're going with that. I think the type effectiveness logic still stands.

Also I don't really prefer one starter over the other, I'm just trying to give an argument as to why Venusaur is Red's in that artwork.

Imagine that, still doesn't change that generations is the official version of the pokemon games anime at the moment and is more canon than any other version. If we're going by the games than Red has all three starters anyway since LGPE does take place in the same continuity as RBGY/FRLG.

Here's a funny thing.
GameFreak had the starters listed as Bulbasaur - > Charmander - > Squirtle in Oak's dex.

But in Origins, Oak listed the starters as Charmander - > Squirtle - > Bulbasaur.

Their order on the table was also different from Gen1 games (which Origins is based on)

TPC and OLM don't follow the games much. They shouldn't be taken seriously for canon.

And LGPE is just one of many alternate universes in the Pokemon Multiverse, there are still universes with Red's more recognizable classic team.
Everything is simultaneously canon so long as the Multiverse continues to be a key aspect of the franchise.

But you still used Origins and Generations in your arguments...
the point isn't they are following the games continuity, the point is that both Gamefreak and TPC is using Bulbasaur as Red's starter.

Gamefreak didn't plan on making sequels, because they thought the games won't be successfull.

Grass types being the first is just following the pattern in later games.

You forget that in one of these very artwork (the one OP published), Leaf is portrayed with Squirtle and Professor Oak with Bulbasaur, which clearly tells us the reliability of these art designs. The 3 mangas are as canon as the ashnime, and that one episode of Pokemon Generations reveals nothing considering that Red has all starter in the established canon.
Now, was Red meant to have Bulbasaur in the original games? Definitely, but it isn't as clear nowadays and we have other sources implying it may have been another starter (or maybe even Pikachu), I'm a bulbasaurfag btw.

Yes, but they all happened to follow Gamefreak's original setup of Red/Bulb, Blue/Char and Green/Squirtle.

Again, I'm not saying they are following the games continuity, I'm saying that they both TPC and GF is using Bulbasaur as Red's starter which means there's already a character setup/plan they are following. Hence, the artworks.

LGPE has Red/Blue/Green in their classic Gen1 outfits, plus the game is a reimagination of Yellow according to Masuda and Red has Venusaur there too. While Blue has Charizard and Green has Blastoise, just like everywhere else except Origins and Generations's 3rd episode.

Which I agree was originally GF's vision of the starters. However, besides the artworks, I don't see it being the same in FRLG and believe that the popularity of Charizard may have won Charizard that position as Red's starter. I think Bulbasaur is just still held respectfully in GF because of the original setup and his reception being more respectable in Japan than in the west considering that it was featured in the actual cover of the first games and not downplayed like it was in the west. I believe out of the three, Squirtle is the one really downplayed if you exclude the west's preference on Charmander and Squirtle over Bulbasaur.
Hasn't appeared as Red's starter even once and the most he has been featured has been in artworks with an specific character that really hasn't made a prominent appearance in the games (Green) or just as the rival's pokemon (in all versions of the anime). Blastoise really hasn't been promoted as well as the other two pokemon in Japan.

Back then, two games existed. Pokemon Green and Pokemon Red. With Venusaur and Charizard as mascots. How do you have both of them in artwork, when your rival picks the Type advantage over you? You have the protagonist with Venusaur and rival with Charizard. Both mascots in artwork, while staying consistent. It's only after the games released that they changed it, due to immense popularity of Charizard and Blastoise. The old artwork is honored in LGPE, which is a different continuity.

Isn't a starter. Isn't treated as one. You can infer this from Blue's teams. In Yellow, where the starter is Pikachu, Blue's team consists of Pokemon like Magneton, Ninetails, Cloyster and such. Pokemon he never has in his teams after Yellow. Instead, he does have Pokemon like Gyarados and Arcanine. Which he only has in games Red can pick Charmander, Bulbasaur and Squirtle as starter. Clearly, one of those was the starter, not Pikachu.

In the whole 20 years of Pokemon, there wasn't a single instance of Red and Blue having Venusaur and Charizard beside them other than being their chosen starters as they are rivals.
Venusaur and Charizard don't appear against each other in any scenario except Red picking Bulbasaur.
