It doesn't take more than half a shred of sentience to realize that after becoming a pokemon you would have a "Okay so now what?" moment and no doubt realize that you're in the same position of "I'm too incompetent to accomplish anything in life" but now you're a pokemon so your opportunities are even more limited now.
You don't need to be a mudkip to go stare at a lake all day. It's completely plausible for you go to go live in the wilderness and survive by fishing and foraging by a lake, while swimming to your heart's content. You just don't want to because you would be inconvenienced and uncomfortable, and being a mudkip wouldn't change that.
