I would need a rather extensive analysis on if affection persists regardless of gender, though, and moreover what exactly an expression of affection is, since grooming habits can be indistinguishable from it. As far as I know, though, affection is not the sole property of one gender, not even for birds, and if you want to dispute their lineage with reptiles, that's another can of worms you won't win.
