The whole message is that fighting with hatred or fighting to prove you're superior over someone was wrong. It wasn't super clear but this entire franchise is built on fighting/competition, not fighting just for the sake of it or for senseless violence.

Mewtwo's clones were fighting to prove that they were superior to the original Pokemon. The fights were brutal deathmatches, not friendly competition with rules and immediate access to recovery centers like your typical Pokemon battle. Clonechu's hate for real Pikachu kept him fighting until he was physically exhauseted - but Pikachu chose not to fight back, and still showed compassion for his foe. That was the significance of that scene.

Well you can be a cunt to your pokemon in game, like letting them faint and never curing them from poison or giving them herbs so they hate you, since you can use frustration.
