Gen 7 in general has a lot of unusually dark stuff just under the saccharine, tropical surface.
I don't think the Pokedex has ever been as explicit about food chain relations, for example.

Nobody knows. However, my personal belief is the Cosmog species are derived from Necrozma's original light, meaning it can hack into their physiology to regain its true form.

Is Cosmog an Ultra Beast?
That depends on who you ask. The Cosmog line are unique in their ability to travel freely through Ultra Space and into other dimensions. The only other known Pokemon that does this is Necrozma, so it makes sense to me that they are related in some capacity. That, and having a shared movepool helps too
