What a way to ooze bullshit. They literally called quits when making SM to the point of turning fans and target viewership away and affecting the general prestige the franchise had there (USUM being the 2nd worst rated game there, only surpassed in that item by the Densetsu no Kusoge that is LGPE only added more salt to the wound). Pokemon being kicked out of the 2018 bandai sponsored poll, the animefestival top90 and having Ash at the top of a infamous top 10 about worst redesigns speaks enormous volumes about how Sado Maso fucked up.

Pokemon isn't top 10 anymore though. It only made it a few times recently due to various other shows not airing and a small boost from the Brock/Misty guest appearances. Right afterwards it disappeared again, and usually loses in ratings to stuff like Phoenix Wright. It's even losing this last month to Yokai Watch Darkside. It seems the new direction is finally paying off there.

That only happened during the first cameo, and ironically it was because of the gym battling that took place rather than the characters themselves. Second time around it was the same as the rest of the show.

Being the 12th most watched cartoon of the 50 or so that aired that week is not "abysmal".
