>>37571971>>37572008>>37572022No, it's not. Dark is not at all the Darkness Type, and should have a name that better reflects what it is. It's name has almost nothing to do with what it is.

>>37571881>How? Dark Pokemon are gloomy or uninviting, or characterized by the night. Not much confusion here.God damn you people. Alright, nevermind. I forgot this was /vp/. Come on guys. Understanding what Dark actually is ain't that hard.
It's the so-called 'Evil Type' in Japanese. But really, it's the 'bad guy' or 'sinister things' Type. It's for criminals, villains and nefarious acts and general underhanded behavior. Which explains all its weaknesses -- Fighting Types are the tough guys who ultimately thwart the criminals and throw them in jail; Bug because there's a Japanese cliche about insects being Power Rangers-esque heroes that fight bad guys; and Fairy because Disney-esque fairies are sweet little compassionate magical things, that protect people from malicious forces or heal them.
It is NOT the Darkness Type. Shadows in Pokémon are represented by the Ghost Type. Rarely, RARELY the Dark Type will occasionally have something to do with pitch-darkness or nighttime. But the only reason for THAT, and why Dark Types are black colored to begin with, is because of the general idea that evil = black and good = white. The connection to darkness is there with Dark Types, but it's a tertiary thing.
You will find that nearly every Dark move that seems to be themed around darkness, like Dark Pulse and Night Slash, actually have descriptions/Japanese names that refer explicitly to wicked behavior and have no mention of literal darkness.
