its just everything feels inferior, from the pokemon, to the plot and dialogue, to the outdoor and indoor designs, even the progression and pacing just feels wrong, like its catering to an entirely different demographic of people with poorer taste

Yes 2 has fewer pokemon
but the atmosphere and gameplay makes up for it
atmosphere and outdoor/indoor design being 11/10

no it's not you.
Pokemon was made by a rag tag team who did their best with the limited technology that was afforded to them.
Around gen 3 they really dropped the ball and fell behind quality wise
>Other gba teams made great games by expanding their teams while gamefreak kept the same number and made a shitty game
Static sprites and midi trumpets on the GBA wtf?

>Reused assets in their gamecube releases
>Another developer used their ip to make a vastly superior game (mystery dungeon )

Gen 3 killed it , Masuda should never direct games, end of story.

there are plenty of games I played a lot when they were new which I really liked, but trying them again they feel like shit. it is not pure nostalgia, its a difference in quality

The best thing about gen 1 is that there are no saturday morning cartoon super villains or chosen one protag plot. Just some random kid that beats mobsters and fights a super powered genetic experiment at the end.
