Steel was already incredibly powerful purely due to resisting half the types in the game and being entirely immune to another. Steel/Fairy is the most powerful defensive type combination in the game, and not too bad offensively either by virtue of Fairy only being resisted by Fire (which it wouldn't want to stay in on anyway), Poison (which can't damage it), and Steel (which again is shit offensively).
Also, it resists and is super effective vs Fighting because Fighting was finally good after being shit for four generations, and I guarantee the only reason Fairy resists Bug is because of U-Turn.
