>>37574518I've just beat Lt. Surge and I feel like I can give an honest evaluation of the game now.
Is it worth $60? No. I'd pay no more than $30 a second time around, because it is, in essence, a watered down Gen 1 game. That said, I really enjoyed the graphical improvement. The remastered music is nice, and it's fun seeing the camera angles change in combat. I'm not seeing the "blocky" criticisms of the game, but I can get behind a preference for something a little less... cartoonish? Kiddish? Either way, I prefer this over how the game looks in Sun/Moon.
The removal of random battles in favor of overworld encounters is a huge step in the right direction. With tweaking, and aggressive/passive settings for different species, this will be a great change if present in Gen8. Of course, the GO catch mechanics are trash, but... I'll be honest in that I wouldn't mind if they were present after you've battled/weakened a monster down. The entire catch shouldn't be dependent on it, but it does add a neat level of interactivity. (Dare I say, that if done right, some twitch skill in catching can be a good thing?)
Eevee is cute as fuck, and the partner system better be present in the next game. It's great seeing Eevee enter the battle from your arm, and GF did a solid by making your partner perfect IVs and giving them unique moves. It'd be nice to designate a pokemon as your partner, elevating them as they are in LGPE, but locking them out from trading/evolving. If this were to be the Mega/Z of Generation 8, I'm sold.
At the end of the day, it's not marketed or designed towards us. It's stripped down to ease newer players into what a pokemon game is, especially from the GO demographic. If you can find it on sale, grab it then. If you really like Pokemon, get it for $60.
