Want to know what you, yes you, random shlub #443, can do to save Pokémon?
Give it more competition.
Find things in the same sphere as Pokémon (Digimon, SMT, etc.) and support them, buy their games, box-sets, overpriced plastic figurines, whatever.
Be vocal about your love for the competitor, explain why you love it it and what it does better than it's competitors (especially Pokémon).
Publish these opinions, post them on Twitter, Facebook, 4chan(nel) and other social media sites; try to get them published in relevant publications; start a youtube channel; etc.
Find small indie attempts, or even better make your own, and promote them, give them as much visibility as you can, if you know multiple languages help translate and/or help the relevant people get in touch with those can translate.
Many are of the opinion that the more recent shifts in Pokemon can be traced back to Yokai-Watch, despite the fact Yokai-Watch is kinda garbage, it is/was popular, as such Pokemon changed to try to be more popular with the same people who made Yokai-Watch popular.
If we put the effort towards making something that is actually good, as popular, it should push GameFreak to shift their efforts towards making their own entries good.
And even if it doesn't work perfectly, if good things get popular they are more likely to continue, and if worst comes to pass, we can always jump ship.
