I wouldn't necessarily call them a death cult either. All Cyrus wanted to do was remove something that he felt was unnecessary, not wipe out everything he disagreed with. People seem to be confusing him with Lysandre.

We still don't know whether he would need to start from scratch or simply remove it. He certainly didn't care whether everyone else would die or not though.
