It was the split of Attack and Special Attack that really power creep the game. Otherwise Hazards like stealth rock and toxic spikes should have never existed. Since half of the game you spend time trying to spin the hazards away or setting them up.

SR doesn't stay up the whole battle the way it does in gen 4, you have plenty of options to deal with it now. Gen 7 sucks for many reasons, but the hazard game specifically is fine, if anything it's a little too easy to Defog now.

Defog is very easy to put on a team now that the distribution is better. There are other options, but in general SR being up can’t be taken for granted the way it could in prior gens.

ADV was the first fun, offensive meta. Most of the best Pokemon were Gen I and Gen II, so there was something for everyone.
The worst part of Gen VII meta is almost no old Pokemon are viable, even those that were OU in Gen VI are RU trash today. Pretty much every OU Pokemon was replaced by a Tapu, a UB, a Mega or a legendary like Zygarde.

Well to be fair Weather Teams did dominate all of GEN 5 with HA released. Sandstorm teams didn't really get to use the weather well before Gen 5 since smogon ban Sandveil for accuracy boosting.

Like who ? The only notable losses from OU between Gen VI and VII are Gengar and Scizor for older gen.
Starmie's gone too, but it's mostly tied to the fact that Defog has a better distribution now.

magic coat, taunt, and bounce do not REMOVE hazards they just help preventing them from being on the field as long as they are around. saying all rs users are a counter to sr is like saying all flamethrower user are a counter to genesect and kartana. it doesn't work that way.
