I dunno, I've seen a lot of people actually calling out the "surely this'll be the one!" attitude. People might finally be learning that we havent gotten a good game since gen 3 because Pokemon's base systems are built on inherently flawed concepts when set against the backdrop of modern game design philosophies.

It doesn't, and I never said it did. The battle frontier absolutely should have been in. But it's not, and having a little memento for long-time fans isn't a bad idea at all, as long as you assume good faith and don't look for reasons to play the victim.

Nope, it was a trash feature that nobody gave a shit about outside of a handful of autists. Gym rematches should have been in, they'd have taken no effort and there is no reason at all to not have them. Let the Frontier be consigned to history.

This was the real slight; I had never expected the entirety of Emerald's Frontier even in the best case, but not only adding nothing at all, but copy-pasting a stylistically different facility under the transparent guise of the Leaders being Hoenn natives the entire time was actually tacky- even FRLG could be bothered to get a new bloody building. Obviously it works as a gauntlet just as well as any but that never was never the question.
