>>37592830Pokemon B/W was around the time where social media really started to pick up. It became known to people who haven't touched Pokemon since Gen 1 or 2, and we all know their opinions on nugen Pokemon. For some reason, all of their shitty "le new Pokemon bad, running out of ideas, objectmons suck" memes started leaking into the actual Pokemon fanbase.
The map design wasn't that good being a big circle. This i'll agree on but at the end of the day, battles were the more important thing.
People hated animated sprites, but mostly in hindsight once Gen 6 came around. I noticed they were low-res and tweened too, but that doesn't mean they were any less interesting to look at than static sprites. Natural progression, as was 3d models.
So to answer OP's question, most people were blowing the negatives out of proportion and falling for bad memes, like they always do.
