Considering SM and especially USUM are leveled around the Exp. Share, it's fine to use them in those games. I used the Exp. Share in my runs, but I don't use the Rotom Powers or affection.

You mean just the XP boosting ones or what?
I can't imagine trying to e.g. catch a Beldum without Roto-Catch.
Bargain and Prize Money are definitely busted though, at least when used together.

In gen I it only shares the exp, not giving any extra points. Starting in gen VI, it gives an extra 50% exp for every pokemon in the party.

No, it just says the rest of your party gained XP. Only the ones who participated in the battle display exact numbers.

The main problem with how difficulty is handled in the newer games is that the easier mode is the default but by turning the Exp share off you don't make the game more difficult, only more tedious.

Anyone has a patched 0 exp emerald romhack for emerald? I've already finished gen 1, 2 and 5 because those were the only games that I managed to find romhacks for

You could always try playing an unpatched BW2 on a shitty emulator like NO$GBA. I think it actually works mostly fine but the anti-piracy prevents you from gaining EXP.

USUM is harder than SM, so if you don't use Exp. Share you might have problems. Some of the bosses in this series can be pretty difficult unless you have a specialized team against them. Totem Alolan Marowak, Olivia, Totem Mimikyu, Guzma 3, Totem Kommo-o, and Ultra Necrozma can all be difficult.
