If the franchise truly were dead, we wouldn't have this separate board for Pokemon. Being the highest grossing media franchise, one of the 3 highest grossing video game franchises, and one of the top 10 highest grossing card game franchises gives it a lot of staying power.

I started with Gen 1 anime and Gen 3 games. I don't think Gen 5 is the best, necessarily, but it gets way too much shit. I'd only put the Gen 5 games below HGSS, Plat, Emerald, and maybe Crystal.

I just think that most pokemon fans develop a fondness for the gen they started with and get biased over it being the best gen (myself included). I acknowledge that Gen 5 was the most ambitious GF has ever been, but at the same time began railroading their region and also stopped giving a shit about mythical events.

They've shifted to GOfag casuals rather than to their core audience. The series is as nearly good as dead. And it will be outright dead if they don't bring their A game for Gen 8. Drive your core audience away and you're left with casuals who cannot and will not support a series long term.

That's why you never see indies pandering to casuals. They know who puts the money in their pocket.
