May's designs in the game and anime always struck me as them realizing the original fanbase were becoming teenagers around the Gen III era and she was sexualized because of it. May's entire body/design looks like a High School girl. Hoenn came out when I was in High School and she had bigger boobs than most of the girls in my classes.

Yeah, May's interactions with Ash were super flat. It could've been interesting with the whole student/mentor thing, but since May entered contests, they just ended up feeling like two characters going on their solo journey, but happen to be doing it together.

Kinda, yeah. They are traveling and make up the bulk of the screen time. Would be nice for their interactions to be fun.

So did Dawn's, but she still managed to have fun chemistry with Ash.

Only Serena qualifies as a girl obsessed with Ash. Everyone else wasn't, and still maintained some good interplay. May and Ash's were flat as fuck.

Yeah, they just used the biggest cliché apart of the forced childhood friend with May being obsessed with that green fag.

Ash and May have plenty of bonding moments in early/mid Hoenn. Ash also saved May from danger in a lot of eps, like the ep Torkoal was captured in, in the ep she caught her Bulbasaur, from the rolling Donphan etc.
