My whole life I've been blindly keeping the starter on my team for my entire playthrough of every Pokémon game. I don't know where this feeling of obligation comes from.

I started playing US and to try something different I boxed my Rowlet. It feels surprisingly liberating.

Gen7 games are where I first time I thought of boxing my starter.

I boxed Litten and didn't feel bad about it. Good thing that Magpie comes early in the game.

Starters are cool and all but if you really want to be a badass, choosing your own starter is the only way to go.

Honestly, aside from popplio, I hate the Gen 7 starters. They feel so heartless. I like what they did with incineroar in smash, but he doesn't have as much personality in game, especially not in terms of character design.

Everyone with a modicum of sense boxes their Rowlet, it just dosen't be worth trying to keep in after it gets it's Dark weakness. Now if you'd said you boxed your Litten or Popplio, especially given how they both turn out at endgame, I'd be concerned for your mental state.

I've never had to not use mine, since I've never played through a region more than three times. If I ever do go through all the starters I'll box the next one

It would be cool if they had a separate training ground or "b" story for if you boxed your starter. It would retain its individuality as your first Pokémon, but allow you to use more unique teams and maybe gain special techniques with your OG

I picked litten in moon and gave it an everstone since I saw the shit it would become otherwise. absolutely no regret, it's fun to have a cute kitty and I give it an eviolite if I have to actually use it in a fight.
