I was disappointed with SM because it felt somewhat incomplete to me. I was disappointed yet again with USUM because it was so similar to the first games and felt like what we should have gotten in the first place. To me it felt like it was just SM with $5 New Game+ DLC that was tacked on.
So, did anyone here play JUST USUM, and if so, do you think they were good?

Yes, I just finished US the other day after not giving a damn about Pokemon all through gen 7.
I really liked it, but some of the cutscenes were way too long (most notably, everything between Akala and Ula'ula) and I completely understand why someone who replays the games regularly would be pissed off about them being unskippable.

I even liked the story, although it felt like Team Skull wasn't developed enough. They're basically just juvenile delinquents until the final act.

I hated the fact that the Tapus werent major parts of the story, the only thing we get is Tapu Koko in the first island and a cutscene where it fights an UB. Really a shame considering all the legends behind them.

Hmmmm. OP, I liked SM. I liked the story, characters, Pokemon, and world. But I will say after I finished the story, I never played it again. I kinda want to re-visit SM, so I'm thinking about picking up USUM just so I don't mess with SM's save and stuff, ya know? Decisions tho...

The game was a whole lot of wasted potential, there was so much story expansion they could've done but decided not to. I agree 100%.

I started replaying Y (which I never finished) last night and actually like the graphics and art style a lot better. I think Gen 6 was more ambitious than Gen 7, which was probably held back by having to be compatible with the O3DS.

When sm came out, something just told me to wait on it. Could have been my 3ds was stolen, but yeah. Then they announce usum, i buy preorder and buy a 2ds xl. I thought it was alright, but i can see the validity of the complaints as i watched a little bit of playthrough of sm, and 87% is pretty much identical.

I sold my Sun version as soon as the Ultra version was announced. I like it better because of the expanded pokédex andfan-service postgame, also the Mantine minigame.
Plotwise, both versions are weak, but Ultra Alola seems more 'alive' in it's day-by-day.

Surf Pikachu was a welcomed addition, too.

Basically, Giovanni, and the other evil team bosses, from another dimension/timeline/reality jumps trom a wormhole to siege both Festival Plaza (?) and Aether Paradise to dominate the world and blablabla.

You battle against the cover legendaries from the past games in this quest, it is pretty fun.

Or at least it was for me since my strongest Pokemon were all weak to Earthquake and I had to cheese it with Max Potions until it ran out of PP.

I've only played US, never touched base S/M.

I mean I enjoyed what I played of it, wasn't perfect, could have been more, but I really enjoyed it. I get into spouts of Pokemon anymore for a couple months, sit it down until the next one or new gen info comes out. I did skip ORAS though, not because I wanted to, but because I didn't have a job at the time, and I've just been hit with unlucky breakings in the house to buy it.

But I enjoyed US quite a lot.

Thanks a lot you guys. That Giovanni stuff sounds awesome. You know, I'm actually playing Pokemon Platinum right now because I never played the Sinnoh games. I just grabbed my 3DS, popped in Sun, and the game is so jarring to me, going from 2D top-down to full 3D. So jarring when making the actual side-by-side comparison.

I'm gonna go ahead and pick up Ultra Moon once I'm done with Platinum. Thanks.

The best part of USUM were the small sidequests around Alola (probably more than 3x the amount SM had). They better bring that sort of thing back in gen 8, it would be unfair to leave sidequests behind in probably the worst 3rd version games we ever got.
