Misdreavus and Mismagius are based on banshees, ghosts that are known for screaming loudly. The former has pokedex entries about how it randomly shrieks to scare people and the latter has entries about how it chants magical incantations to cast spells.

Pyroar is all about the roaring aspect of lions, hence why it gets so many sound moves as well as a sound-based signature move. The only reason it's normal type to begin with is so that it gets STAB on Hyper Voice and Echoed Voice.

Doubt it, there's still a fuckton of cool Pokémon in Normal, or at least part-normal, Snorlax and Chansey line for instance
Being such a basic, supposedly unimpressive type is actually what makes Normal be interesting IMO

Sound travels better across water. Aussie Aboriginal tribes used to communicate events to their neighbours by standing on a shoreline, pointing their didgeridoo down at the water at an angle and essentially singing into it. Not to mention all the various sonar using creatures.

To be honest, the main reason I made it strong against Fairy is because Fairy is currently broken. Its only weaknesses are both defensive types, one of which isn't even a good defensive type, and the only other thing that resists it is Fire, so it needs something to shit on it.

It gets distorted though.
I know that realistically wouldn't matter with sound waves but Pokemon type matchups tend to be more conceptual than physical, like Fighting being strong against Dark even though Dark is more pragmatic.
