I fucking hate the 3D games, but I like that there's at least these little moments. I wonder who's responsible for these, since Pokemon is becoming more and more babby tier, yet these sometimes surprisingly dark and depressing moments are still there.

In Anistar City you can give a lonely old man a Pokemon. If you return sometime later (I don't know how much later or if it's in the postgame) you'll just find a note with your Pokemon where the old man was, implying that he either died or ended his life.

There's also the that old lady in care because she has dementia, it's tied in with the Eeveelution sidequest. Or the Dartrix who's trainer has died.

Anyone else here just keep playing the games for these little side stories? The regions are so tiny compared to what they actually should look like but these little stories kind of make the world and its people seem a bit more alive. I mean, to me that and new Pokemon is really the only interesting thing Pokemon has to offer right now.

he almost definitely tested the games before release, there's no way he wouldn't know. he handed the director position over to ohmori because he "struggled to refresh the series" like GF envisioned, so he probably just nervously went along with whatever ohmori did, and was overriden if he objected

No, she's there during the day but not at night, she's just giving you advice for the future

The really dark moments are just gens 6 and 7 such as USM letting lusamine see Mohn again, the guy she did all that crazy shit for, imagine them doing it in the anime and you can see Lusamine's tears through her smile, she's got a good VA so I'm sure she'd nail a scene like that

Yeah and it's actually really subtle sometimes. Said lady with dimentia is actually never directly stated to have it as far as I know, she just says "who?" after you tell her the name of the cashier who tells you where to find her. She forgot that she was ever part of the Eeveelution trainers. Really sad that all of this gets locked behind optional quests.
