Kingdom is real, but you don't visit all regions. The game isn't open world but has a variety of different hubs to explore based on regions from past games, as well as a full brand new region.

The new region is kind of small and doesn't feature any routes. The majority of the battles in this main hub will be trainers and gym leaders. Instead you find wild pokemon by sailing out on "treks" to these new, expansive hubs. Totem pokemon are back and are a lot stronger. The main goal of each trek is to scout and battle the land's totem. the main region will grow and develop as you venture out on these quests. Game feels like it has a lot of monster hunter influence.
