It can't hit anything hard but it also can't tank anything well
it's like a generalist, but instead of being okay at everything, it's kinda meh at everything.

In game, people would rather use something more effective. Meganium has a hard time nabbing kills, so it loses out on a lot of exp points. In my Colosseum playthrough, I had to box it because it was becoming a liability.

Meganium is a beast for in-game runs of gen2. Anyone who says otherwise has either never used it, or has the mentality of a 9 year old and will only use XxSweepersXx with high attack

I actually ran a good Meganium in my Sun nuzlocke. Really surprised me at how good she tanked things and gave support by getting screens up and leech seed. Liked her a lot better than the stupid owl, so it crushed me when I lost her to Totem Mimikyu. Lost the owl to that totem too, but didn't care as much.

Yeah I played Silver again recently and mine ended up with Body Slam/Razor Leaf/Reflect/Light Screen and it was just fine. Dual Screens and solid stats helped it tank okay and provide screen support.

Gold was my first game and I picked Chikorita. Trying to sweep the entire game with Meganium was such a challenge. I had a lot of fun though and it made me the Pokémon fan that I am today, so thanks Meganium.

I could understand arguing from a person design standpoint on Meganium (which I personally like) or it's viability competitively, but to argue about whether it's useful in-game against leaders, trainers, e4, etc. is just silly because pretty much everything is useful.

Obviously you can still beat the game with it, no one is implying otherwise. Just that it's going to be a lot fucking slower than doing so with literally any other starter in the franchise.

You can also beat the game with just an Unown but that doesn't mean it isn't a hell of a lot easier to do with Mewtwo.

And yet a lot of the same people complain Pokemon is too easy, honestly the difference in it being slow is mitigated entirely due to having other type coverage/Pokemon. It's rather worthless. Sure Meganium as a Pokemon does indeed suck, but it's not a terrible Pokemon, it has the same problem Venusaur does (It's not the other two), that and it having a more "feminine" design.

Not what I meant, I meant more that it's design is like less than the other two starter's final evolutions and is generally regarded as the black sheep of the trio, Meganium is like that because it's feminine, Venusaur is like that because we got Red/Blue I think rather than Red/Green.

Also yes, Venusaur is notoriously a fantastic starter competitively and in game. Apologies should have explained myself better rather than just sort of stringing along my sentence in one singular thought.

I like it, but it's terrible. So I'd rather pick Feraligatr which is actually good or Typhlosion which is decent enough to get things done.
