4. Very few new pokemon added, a lot of baby forms which are cute but that's it, a lot of evolutions that ruined older lines (magmortar, electvire, rhyperior they should have been mega evos), too many derps, etc.

7. While I try to see the good part about gen 7, it has really bad pokemon, first the starters, then various alola forms, bland/uninteresting new pokemon, and really ugly ultra beasts (i like some, though).

heres what i dont get about 4, Its the most average roster ever. it has so few successes and so few failures. whereas other gens have much more shit but also some solid gold buried in it. I think gen 4's mediocre pokemon aren't bad enough to be considered the worst. Plus platinum is one of the better pokemon games so it somewhat makes up for it.

this, 4 was supplemented by gen 1 mon you couldnt get until late game so it felt like it had a better roster than it actually did have. besides its roster being mostly crap with a few exceptions. same with gen 7, you got the gen 1 variants to distract you from the mostly crap pokemon, although gen 7 had better mons than gen 4 did.

Gen 3's wide selection of shitmons is such a bigger problem than the water routes. Want something stronger than your starter? Sure just find and evolve feebas or wait until the game is over for metagross. Even challenge runs are kind of shitty because gamefreak didn't start making these mons have more interesting movesets until later.

gen 3 has some of the better pokemon of all the gens and its gameplay is better than most other games aswell, if gen 3 and 5 had a baby, that would be the best pokemon game. there is nothing overhyped about emerald, it had the worst sales for any 3rd installment game. it holds up because its got fast paced gameplay and is filled to the brim with stuff to do. you are not forced to do all the extra stuf so you cant use it as a counter argument. the only real criticism of gen 3 is having to have surf, waterfall and dive at a few parts in the game. which is only annoying for a small portion of the game. other than that its one of the best pokemon games, right up there with bw 2.

There are absolutely no cool/tough/kaiju type pokemon at all so your team is obligated to have a bunch of cute fluffy babies.

There are too many feminine looking pokemon like Tsareena line, Oricorio variants (which I'm cool with desu), Salazal, Lurantis, Primarina.

Komomomo is the worst fucking pseudo legendary ever and I will never forgive GF for finally making a Dragon/Fighting Velociraptor....and then blanketing it in those stupid looking discs. Specifically the final evo looks absolutely retarded.

Silvally is shit and I hate how forced it is in marketing.

Ultra Beasts were a mistake. Most of them are stupid.
Also people criticizing a gen for having pre-evos/new evos are dumb. You're just supposed to judge based on the merit of the designs.

It's gen 4. They got uninspired that generation and relied on a fuckton of evolutions and legendaries, many which have no reason to exist (Phione) and there's gimmick shit like Cherrim, Wurmadam, and location based evolution. Not to mention it introduced the god pokemon.

Every generation has problems though, but 3 and 7 stand out as being generations with very few high points. I think the only pokemon I like in gen 3 are fug and sableye.

i think gen 7 had higher points than 6 by far. 7 isn't good but lillies ark was at least slightly compelling although cliche. In 6 i cant think of a single high point. there flat out weren't any except the ending cut scene.

Gen 5 has the worst, but it also has some pretty damn good ones. I'd say Gen 4 is close behind though.
I dont like the starters. Pidove is cute but Tranquil and Unfeazant are fucking stupid. I can make better pheasant pokemon.
The monkeys have a good base to work off of but they still look bland.
Tympole and Palpitoad look dumb.
Conkeldurr is the only good looking one in its line and thats not saying much.
Garbodor could have been redesigned to look a little bit better. Trash monster has potential to be good but they screwed it up.
Stoutland looks.. interesting.
Thundurus, Tornadus and Landorus are all copy paste but the therian forms look great.
Klink and Klang are fine and all but Klinklang needs to be redesigned. It's even more dumber than Magneton. Its basically Klang but with a circle around it,
Ducklett could use some retooling. Maybe emphasise the innertube thing it has? I thought it was just random feathers at first.
I have absolutely no idea what they were thinking with Cryogonal but they need to fix its face at least. Duno whats up with the weird ball mustache.
I never liked Keldeo's "eyebrows". They should've been furs or ears or something. If you wanted to make the brim of a hat, then you shouldn't actually make a brim of a hat. It looks silly on Keldeo.

Most of this is nitpicks. Everything else is really cool and some of my favorites come from this gen so I wouldn't call it a BAD gen just a mediocre one.

Gen 4 is the one I love the most, it might just be because that's the one I grew up with. In relation to how I see it, Gen 4 was just fun for me. Love Dialga. It was also the time of Gen 2 remake which I also loved.
